Unit 5 blog

I did the Loving Kindness again. This time at night before going to sleep. I was able to concentrate and focus. I do recommended, it works. I guess I’m more relax at night, because I’m done with everything that when on throughout the day. The subtle mind exercise was more complex for me. My mind kept hearing the mental chatter. I would focus on my breathing and once the audio stopped talking and I heard the waves. My mind started thinking about random stuff. It was constant battle of going back and forth. The Loving Kindness was easier because it tells you what to think and do. While the subtle mind focuses more on the breathing and there is less talking. So I really have to focus here.

We all have spiritual, mental, and physical wellness. They all interconnect with each other. When I am mentally devastated like stress or too many problems. My spirituality and physical well ness also go down. I get sick and don’t want to be around anybody. When I’m working out, I feel stronger and my physical wellness increase. So my mental and spirituality also increase. I can take any challenge that the world throws at me. I feel motivated and happy to start a new day.

  1. Ben,
I agree with you regarding the complexity of the subtle mind exercise versus the loving-kindness. I felt as though there were too many distractions taking place that were hindering me from fully allowing myself to absorb the whole breathing thing. I got a lot more out of the loving-kindness in terms of relaxation and complete absorption. When I get stressed It is very hard for me to focus and it seems the only helpful solution is the gym. I can see with practice that the loving-kindness exercise will be easier for me to dive into then the subtle mind exercise.

  2. Ben,
The subtle mind exercise was also more difficult for me, but for me it was a matter of sitting quietly still for so long with almost no thoughts at all. My mind is usually a dizzying maze of thoughts, so to let them all pass left too much silence for me.

  3. Hi Ben,
I am glad you were able to try the loving-kindness exercise again, it really was helpful. I also found this weeks exercise to be difficult, but it was because I was so distracted and could not turn my mind off. I agree with you that our physical, mental and spiritual wellness is all connected. If we are lacking in one area the other two will feel the effects as well.
